Trophy

The other day, I got nominated for a Blogger’s Choice Award.

While checking out the Blogger’s Choice web site, I found that besides the kinds of categories you would expect, (best business blog, best entertainment blog, etc, etc, etc) they had some weirder categories as well, including Freakiest Blogger, Hottest Mommy Blogger, and Most Obnoxious Blogger.

Since I’m in no way qualified to judge anybody on anything (including my own ability to judge others), I’ve undertaken the mission of reviewing some of the more interesting categories, to decide whether I found the 2007 winners to be worthy of their respective awards or not:

Freakiest Blogger

This title went to Psychicgeek.com

What makes the Psychicgeek so freaky? Well, I did some poking around on her blog, and found that besides calling her autistic son “Ass Burger Boy,” posting pictures of grannies on motorcycles, and using her clairvoyent abilities to help the police catch serial killers, not much about it is freaky.

It’s actually an excellent blog and I found the posts about her son to be humorous and poignant.

- Hottest Daddy Blogger
Uhh….

This award went to Ed Unloaded. As a heterosexual male, I don’t consider myself qualified to judge the validity of this award, so I won’t.

In some ways I find this blog freakier than the winner of said “freakiest blog” award. It disturbs me to see people compromise their child’s privacy to further their own goals, whatever they may be.

Much like Hollywood moms, I believe these bloggers aren’t really looking out for their kid’s best interests. And unlike the Psychicgeek, Ed has no problem posting real pictures and names of his children.

And some may find it endearing, but I find his stories about his constant proselytizing of his children kind of strange.

- Hottest Mommy Blogger
Now here’s something I can get into!

This Blogger’s Choice award went to Karen Cheng’s Snippets of Life.

Karen is certainly an attractive woman, although I’d like to informally nominate “Mom” from http://momscashblog.com for this award as well. I mean…man just check her site out.

In my opinion, Karen’s blog has some of the same problems as Ed’s, although she keeps her blog’s focus on herself and off her children. It’s a good read, and if you think a blog about a mom is boring, check out the pole dancing article.

- Most Obnoxious Blogger
This landslide victory was given to Perez Hilton. I’m starting to question the credibility of these awards, because I couldn’t find a nomination for Michelle Malkin’s blog anywhere.

I had heard of this Perez Hilton dude before. According to my sister, he’s so flamboyantly homosexual, he makes Jack from Will and Grace look like Chuck Norris.

I wasn’t able to spend much time browsing his blog before my eyes started bleeding, but I can that testify that Perez’s website is indeed obnoxious, being composed mostly of images of celebrities with the words “Yum” or “Ew” photoshopped on them, with the occasional penis drawn in for good measure.

By careful logical induction, I’ve concluded that his site is probably frequented by the same kind of people who believe that Britney’s latest mental breakdown is news worthy.

- The “Blogitzer”
Right now I’m having my people look into why I wasn’t nominated for this award. What a gross injustice!

A play on The Pulitzer, this award goes to the blogger who “demonstrates the best writing ability on his or her blog.”

The winning blog is written by a Filipino seminary student named Felmar. One of his better posts uses the Lord of the Rings to expound upon the duality of human nature. Poor Shhhmeagol.

Felmar’s blog is OK, but he’s certainly no Hemingway. His English grammar is superb, but his writing is bland. I wonder whether the people running Blogger’s Choice really check the relevancy of the nominations they receive.

- Worst Blog Ever
I smell fraud. Once again, our buddy Perez has taken the cake. And once again, no Michelle.

Apparently this dude got his own cable TV based on the success of his website. Worst blog or not, it’s funny that while we’re deciding just how annoying Mr. Hilton is, he’s laughing all the way to the bank.
